Story By: STEVE PADOS / DIRT TRACK HEROES – PHILLIPSBURG, NJ – Day by day the time inches closer to the start of the Tenth Annual Quaker Steak & Lube Dirt Track Heroes Show. The management staff of the show continues to lock in the many components needed to produce a successful show and this year’s edition of the show is once again reaching out to all of the local Drag Racing clubs and Dragways in the area to join together for one evening of the show to talk about the drag racing for the followers of the straight line racing.
Drag Racing was featured last year for the first time and was a successful addition to the show. The interest has been phenomenal for the event and will bring the past, present and future of all auto racing ventures under one roof in Phillipsburg, New Jersey. The successful show kicks off on Sunday, March 5th with the honoring of one of the top local Modified stars “The Pride of Pen Argyl” Tighe Scott and noted author and publisher Lew Boyd (Paved Track/Dirt Track) and will complete its week long run on March 11th.
The Phillipsburg Mall, located on Route 22 East in Phillipsburg, NJ, has proven to be a popular setting for this special event and will offer a multitude of race cars, racing memorabilia, collectibles and photos on display throughout the course of the show. The show continues to be FREE of charge to the mall traffic and the 2017 edition of the show will continue to be the trend setter of the many shows that are scheduled during the year. With an exciting and diverse schedule of events to whet the appetite of any true race fan, large crowds are expected to fill the wide walkways of the Phillipsburg Mall.
Quaker Steak & Lube, or The Lube(r) to loyalists, the award-winning casual dining concept known for its Best Wings USA and over 25 signature sauces, is fully prepped and geared as the lead sponsor for the 10th Annual Dirt Track Heroes Car Show. All historical racing groups including Reading, Flemington, Harmony, Dorney Park and Nazareth will have their memorabilia on display and their many scrapbooks open for the fans to take another long look at the glory years of racing and possibly find a picture or two they want to purchase as a keepsake from past glory or racing exploits. Cars on display include big and small block Modifieds, Sportsman, Drag Cars, Micro-Sprints, Midgets, 305, 358, 360 and 410 Sprints, Wingless Sprints, Late Models, go-karts, quarter midgets and a broad range of vintage and restored race cars. Hamlin, Snydersville, New Egypt, Grandview, Big Diamond, Accord and Bridgeport will again be among the many speedways involved with the 2017 show. The week-long event will set aside one evening to salute the “Stars of Tomorrow” with a special night for the budding young racing talents competing with the many quarter midget clubs in the local area.
