Story By: RYAN HILL / KOLBY SCHRODER RACING – STAATSBURG, NY – The weather may have been dreary for Saturday nights lid lifter at Lebanon Valley Speedway, but the hopes of an exciting, and fruitful season shined bright for the Kolby Schroder Racing team, as they started their 2017 Big Block Modified campaign.
After unloading the 99 car out of the trailer the entire team was excited for opening day. The Top Notch Builders 99 team had high hopes for their new Teo Pro Car powered by Bedell Racing Engines, and neither chassis nor power plant disappointed.
“The car was fast in practice, and we didn’t make any adjustments for our heat race” Schroder said. “We had Andy Bachetti starting to our inside for the heat race so we knew we better have a fast car.”
The 99 car was fast. Kolby pulled out to a good lead winning the heat race over the night’s feature event winner Andy Bachetti.
“After winning our heat race we made some changes to keep up with the track and made the car a bit too tight for the hot lap session” Kolby said,
The 99 team decided to go with a happy medium with their changes for the L&M Motors/Sayer’s Auto Wrecking Modified Feature. While most of the field battled issues, mechanical and otherwise, the 99 was able to power to a second place finish.
“The car was close at the start, but took a few laps to get going. We struggled with restarts, but managed to keep digging, and laying down some steady laps to end up with a second place finish to a very fast to Andy’s very fast #4 car.” Kolby adds that “now it is back to the weekly grind so we can come back next week faster and better.”
Kolby and Kolby Schroder Racing will next race Saturday April 29th at Lebanon Valley Speedway for Heavy Hauler Presents Opening Night for Small Block Modifieds; the Big Block Modified will race for appearance points only.
