Story By: DAVE BUCHANAN / LANCASTER SPEEDWAY – LANCASTER, NY – The month of June will be a busy one at Lancaster National Speedway & Dragway with a jam-packed schedule of events planned for Western New York’s premier Motorsports and event facility.
The action kicks off this weekend with a full slate of racing action. Both the Franco’s Pizza Friday Night IHRA Drag Racing program and X-Press Signs Stock Car Series are hungry to get back on track after wet weather put a damper on racing last week.
On Friday, the Buffalo Street Outlaws return to the strip along with a full card of IHRA bracket racing. The Street Outlaws runs heads up with the fastest ride taking the spoils of victory. Time trials start a 5 p.m.
Saturday night the International Supermodified Association (ISMA) returns to Lancaster for Double Wing Night. The fastest short track race cars in America will tackle Lancaster’s 1/2-mile oval for the first time since 2003 in a 50-lap special. Joining the ISMA Supers will be the winged Can-Am TQ Midgets plus the Advance Auto Parts Street Stocks and Roaming Buffalo 4-Cylinders. Racing starts at 6:30 p.m.
Lancaster will hold its third annual Pro Mod Shootout on Tuesday, June 6. This event traditionally attracts the top Pro Modified racers from around the region with $5,000 on the line for the winner. Bruce Boland of Stoney Creek, Ontario has been victorious in the first two editions of this event. There will also be a Box/No-Box Shootout with $1000 going to each winner.
The weekend of June 9-10 is all about Mopars at Lancaster. Friday, June 9 features a full card of IHRA Drag Racing plus the Supercharged Bounty Hunters and a special class for Mopar vehicles only. The following day, June 10, is Mopar Day at Lancaster presented by the WNY Mopars Club. Dodges, Plymouths, Chryslers and other Mopar vehicles will be on display and racing down the drag strip. There will also be a special Box/No-Box Shootout open to any vehicle make that day.
Thursday, June 15 is “Rockin’ the Raceway” at Lancaster featuring a concert by KISS Army, Metal Militia and 1980 Something. Tickets are only $15 for this live music event. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. with the first band hitting the stage at 6:30.
The biggest race of the year for Lancaster’s Sunoco Sportsman division takes place on Saturday, June 17 with Joe Reilly Sportsman Summer Slam 75. This event will feature the top Sportsman teams in WNY doing battle for 75 laps plus a full card of X-Press Signs Stock Car Series racing.
The following weekend, June 23-25, Lancaster National Speedway will host the Niagara Swap Meet & Car Show. It will be the first time this iconic WNY automotive event comes to Lancaster. Vendors and classic show cars from across the country will be on hand all weekend.
Lancaster closes out the month of June with two huge events. On Thursday, June 29 its the third annual Bill Colton Memorial Ol’ Boy Cup 60 for the Race of Champions Modified Series. This 60-lap sprint race for the groundpounding mighty Modifieds will feature intense action throughout the field. This special Thursday night stock car show starts at 7 p.m.
The next night, June 30, the stars of the reality TV show “Street Outlaws” return to Lancaster National Dragway. Kamikaze Chris and Dominator will go head-to-head with the best of the Buffalo Street Outlaws in Street Outlaws: 716 vs. 405 Round 2. Last year, the hometown racers defended their turf against the Street Outlaws, who will be looking for revenge.
