Story By: TIM BALTZ / ADIRONDACK MOTORSPORTS – PLATTSBURGH, NY – For the first time since the 2015 season current Super DirtCar Series Director Mike Perrotte will be making his return to weekly competition in the 358 Modified ranks. After many seasons of asphalt events track staff and management decided to bring Airborne back to dirt once again for the 2017 season a surface that Perrotte has had a lot of success at.
A career that began back in 1973 where Perrotte competed in several different divisions for different car owners, including the NASCAR North Tour, it wasn’t until 1985 when he landed a ride with current car owner George Huttig where his career really took off. In 1986 they claimed the 358 Modified title at Airborne and from there feature wins and championships continued to pile up. Perrotte also was dominant during the late 90s and early 2000s at the Mohawk International Raceway where he won 4 track titles in 1997, 1999, 2000 and 2001. Perrotte was also a regular and multi time feature winner at the Albany Saratoga Speedway.
The opportunity to promote at his home track Airborne Speedway in 2005 and bringing DirtCar 358 Modifieds on asphalt was something Perrotte jumped at the opportunity to do. The opportunity proved successful with big car counts in the 358 ranks and with the right people in the right places Perrotte was able to get back behind the wheel from time to time. In 2014 the chance to become Super DirtCar Series director came available and for the last 2 seasons he and his team have helped not only the Big Blocks but DirtCar Northeast as a whole become stronger than ever.
His career has come full circle in 2017. Huttig and Perrotte will rejoin after taking off the 2016 season and compete in the 358 Modified division at Airborne. “We’re going to hit as many races as we can at Airborne, the Big Block Series keeps me very busy during the year but I’m looking forward to getting back out there and having some fun this season.” Perrotte said.
With heavy rains this week and more rain on the horizon, Airborne officials have decided to delay the opener until May. 13. The Egglefield Ford 358 Modifieds, Fidelis Care Sportsman, Poirier’s True Value Renegades, Busch Beer Mini Modifieds and Strictly Stock will all be on the card.
