Story By: BOBBY CHALMERS / GILARDI MOTORSPORTS – PITTSFIELD, MA – After two weeks of finishes that haven’t shown just how well the team has been performing, Paul Gilardi and the Superior Seamless Gutters #87x had a great start to racing Saturday at Lebanon Valley, only to be derailed by the unexpected…a power outage.
The driver from Pittsfield, MA nearly won his heat race, finishing second to Kenny Tremont in an extremely close race. That run was a big shot in the arm for the entire racing team.
“We had a good heat race,” Gilardi said. “The nice thing about running with Ken is that you know he’s going to run you clean. He got me on the last lap but it shows that we aren’t too far off. I’m really looking forward to next week.”
The reason he’s looking forward to next week? Not only does he have a good car, but there will be double features at the West Lebanon, NY oval due to a lighting issue at the track last Saturday. Nights like these are stressful for any driver, but the team is ready for the challenge.
“A night with double features is always tough,” he said. “We’ll take it one race at a time and adjust accordingly. Hopefully we can put together a couple solid finishes and get some momentum going in the right direction.”
Now…starting up front in any race and visiting victory lane may sound easy, but with the field of cars that run at Lebanon Valley weekly, it’s no cakewalk.
“Our Hig Fab Chassis has been great so far this season,” Gilardi said. “I think we’ll be fine, but the front of the field for the first feature is pretty stacked. Brett (Hearn), Ken (Tremont) and JR (Heffner) are all starting right around us. We’ll have to be better than good come Saturday night to have a shot at the win. You also can’t forget about Kyle Hoffman who’s starting on the pole and looks pretty dialed in.”
