Story By: BJ MCLEOD MOTORSPORTS – LONG POND, PA – On the heels of two solid performances for B.J. McLeod Motorsports at Dover (Del.) International Speedway last weekend, the team heads to Pocono (Pa.) Raceway for Saturday’s Pocono Green 250 looking to build more momentum for the approaching grueling summer stretch.
In the final Dash4Cash event of the season at Dover, BJMM drivers Jordan Anderson, B.J. McLeod and David Starr all showed speed and while Anderson’s top-20 finish was derailed by a mechanical failure less than 20 laps from the finish in the OneMain Financial 200, his 26th place finish was considered a success.
Team principal B.J. McLeod steadily climbed his way through the field in his No. 8 Chevrolet Camaro. Taking advantage of a balanced handling race car in the latter stages at the Monster Mile, McLeod took the checkered flag in 22nd – recording his best performance of the season.
Feeling confident about their approach and delivery at Dover, the team returns to Pocono following their inaugural run last year and hope to carry the top-25 performances into top-20 efforts in the 12th race of the season.
“We had a solid weekend at Dover,” said McLeod. “Everyone worked hard and despite Jordan’s mechanical failure at the end of the race, I couldn’t have been more pleased. Jordan exceeded our expectations at Dover and I can’t wait to have him back in one of our cars down the road.”
For Saturday’s Pocono Green 250, McLeod is thrilled to officially announce the addition of veteran Tommy Joe Martins who will drive the team’s No. 78 Chevrolet at the 2.5-mile triangle this weekend.
Martins, a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series mainstay looks to make his first XFINITY Series start of the year and first since 2013.
A native of Como, Mississippi, Martins has one start at Pocono, a solid 17th place finish in Long Pond during last July’s Truck Series race. His efforts this weekend in the team’s flagship car will be supported by Diamond Gusset Jean Co.
Diamond Gusset Jean Co. is an American made clothing company based in Bon Aqua, Tennessee. Diamond Gusset was founded in 1987 to develop an entirely new jean concept utilizing a gusset for extra durability and enhanced comfort.
“A tremendous thank you to B.J. McLeod and his team for allowing me this opportunity this weekend at Pocono,” said Martins. “I see it as a huge milestone in my career to drive for another team. I’m really humbled that B.J. reached out to me. I’ve always had respect for him. He’s had to do a lot without big-time resources.
“I just want to go out and do a good job for him and the whole team. Hopefully, it leads to more opportunities this season.”
David Starr, currently ranked 25th in the XFINITY Series standings complete the three-car BJMM trio.
McLeod, a native of Wauchula, Fla. will make his second career-start at Pocono. Last June, he qualified a respectable 25th and finished a solid 22nd.
Martins will make his 14th career XFINITY Series start and first at Pocono. In his previous XFINITY starts, his best result is a 14th place result at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway in May 2014.
Starr, the Houston, Tex. native is set for his XFINITY Series debut at Pocono.
For Pocono, B.J. McLeod Motorsports is proud to welcome the additional support of ICE-FROST and @CouchCrewChief who will serve as associate marketing partners for the team’s 45th career XFINITY Series race.
