Story By: JIM HILLIER SR. / CAROGA CREEK SPEEDWAY – EPHRATAH, NY – Caroga Creek Speedway Owner/Promoter Todd Moran is pleased to announce that a very special three division program will take place for the first time at his 1/5 mile clay oval on Thursday August 3rd.
Two of the divisions, Junior 2 Turquoise and Stock Heavy, compete on a regular weekly basis at the track will be showcased and certainly have the ability on this big event night to draw twenty cars in each division. Each of the two divisions will have a practice period by class, a qualifying session and 20 lap features.
Racing teams and their faithful fans having always given from their hearts when asked to help the less fortunate. The sole recipient of this major fundraiser at Caroga Creek Speedway will be the Melody Center for Children with Cancer and Blood Disorders located at the Albany Medical Center.
Promoter Moran has invited and assembled some of the biggest names in east coast dirt racing who will compete in a special racing 20 lap feature event. Drivers through a “special draw” when arriving to the track will be matched up with Wing Champ Kart owners who have graciously volunteered the use of their racing machines and crew for the nights activities.
The following fifteen (15) drivers have agreed to appear to date in their racing uniforms, helmets and huge smiles with the hope that all of their faithful fans will be there to cheer them on while they are racing on the fast track in Wing Champ karts. Andy Bachetti, Justin Boehler, Pep Corradi, Matt DeLorenzo, Keith Flach, Jessica Friesen, Stewart Friesen, Craig Hanson, Josh Hohenforst, Marc Johnson, Jeff Trombley, Bobby Varin, Danny Varin, Rocky Warner and Jeremy Wilder.
The thrill of it all is at Caroga Creek Speedway as all race fans will pay a general admission fee and that takes you right into the huge pit area where all of the action will be taking place. Fans are reminded to bring their cameras for pictures and the speedway will be offering a 50/50 program to add money to the fundraising total.
The foundation of area racing was built by area drivers who in their own racing days competed locally in go karts, motorcycles and stock cars. To honor some of the gentlemen who got racing going in our immediate area Promoter Todd Moran will be inviting twelve (12) drivers who he has dubbed the “Dirty Dozen” and they too will be honored on this action packed night.
The drivers names of the “Dirty Dozen” fame will be released shortly by Promoter Moran in a special Caroga Creek Speedway release. In addition to the “Dirty Dozen”, Moran will also be inviting and honoring some of the local media members who have been instrumental in covering the sport of two and four wheel types of racing. Those media names will be released shortly.
Gates to the speedway will open at 3 pm for any early arrivals with General Admission tickets for Adults 13 and older $20. Students ages 5-12 $10. and all children 4 and under admitted free. The racing facilities famous Moran Family concession stand will open for business at 4 pm offering great food and beverages at very affordable pricing all during the evening.
There will be a drivers meeting at 5:30 pm followed by introduction of drivers and guests at 5:45 pm. Then at 6 pm the track will open up for a practice session for all three divisions followed by qualifying and then the three huge features that will end a fast paced evening of raising money for a great cause the Melody Center for Children at Albany Medical Center.
