Story By: TOM COUGHLIN / NEW YORK STATE STOCK CAR ASSOCIATION – SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – On Saturday, November 25, 2017, two organizations that are dedicated to the betterment of the sport of auto racing, will be in attendance when the Saratoga Automobile Museum will host their annual ‘Lost Speedway’s’ presentation.
Members of the New York State Stock Car Association and the North East Stock Car Old Timers Club will be available for those who would like to renew their membership or to become new members of one or both of these fine racing oriented groups.
N.Y.S.S.C.A. supports it’s members with an injured member benefit fund and various bonus pay outs during the racing season.
In a little less than two months N.Y.S.S.C.A. will honor it’s latest class of inductee’s Dick Hicks, Jimmy Horton, Dave Kneisel, and Allie Swears into it’s Hall of Fame, at the S.A.M. where the exhibit is located on the second floor.
N.E.S.C.O.T. also supports racer’s in their time of need and supports vintage racing throughout the Northeast. N.E.S.C.O.T. members will have their 2018 racing lottery calendar on sale for guest to purchase. Every month of the calendar features a different driver or member of the racing community in the highlight of their racing involvement.
Set for the traditional Saturday after Thanksgiving. The S.A.M. presents ‘Lost Speedway’s’
The S.A.M. opens at 10:00 am.. Memorabilia will be on display around 11:00 am. with the official program to begin around 12:15 pm.
Sports car owner Rob Dyson will discuss the IMSA Championship winning LMP675 Prototype that he recently donated to the museum. Dyson will be joined by Ken Parrotte who will recall the 1967 racing season.
Former NASCAR head chassis inspector Randy Hedger will tell tales of encounters with various crew chiefs and others throughout his career.
S.A.M. Racing in New York curator Ron Hedger will take a look back at the Labor Day races held at the ‘Moody Mile’ at the NYS fairgrounds near Syracuse, N.Y.
Hedger will then interview famed car owner Randy Ross and N.Y.S.S.C.A.-Hall of Fame driver Dickie Larkin about their experiences together as a team.
