Quick List By: RACE PRO WEEKLY – GLOVERSVILLE, NY – Josh Hohenforst has been a mainstay in the Modified division at the Fonda Speedway for several years. In 2017 he was again in the top five in track points and is gearing up for another busy season of racing.
Now, on to “The Quick List”…
Tell us a little bit about yourself. Who is the real Josh Hohenforst?
I live in Gloversville NY. I drive tractor trailer for a living. I put a lot of hours and my own paychecks into my team and car just to be able to race.
What was your favorite car, of all time, that you’ve had the chance to race?
Don’t really have one. Every car I’ve driven has their own characteristics that were good.
Was 2017 a good year in your eyes?
2017 was a great year for my team. Two wins and lots of top 5 finishes at Fonda. We had a motor issue during the season opener and that effectively killed our hopes of a track championship.
What did you do to make it successful?
Getting two wins at Fonda and finishing top 5 almost weekly. It’s a tough field of cars that race there so being a top runner was success in my book.
Where do you feel you could have improved?
I really didn’t do anything different from past years. It was just getting more comfortable and learn from mistakes. The biggest thing to improve is the finances. Now-a-days, it’s hard to take used equipment and compete with the top guys that race for a living and have unlimited funds. That’s what separates drivers more than talent does.
How long have you been behind the wheel of a racecar?
I started racing go-karts when I was 5-years-old and have raced every year since. I’m now 27.
What made you interested in the sport?
My dad got me into racing since he used to race. Ever since, I’ve been hooked and live for it!
How important is family to your racing?
Family is very important. They have been with me my whole career. My parents, my uncles, my cousins and great friends (they are my family too).
Do you like to travel or stick close to home with your racing? Which makes you a stronger driver?
I enjoy traveling to different tracks sometimes because it helps improve your program and sharpens your skills.
What are your goals for 2018?
We are gearing up for 2018 with a brand new DKM Cyclone Chassis and an LJL / Kevlar Big Block engine. Our focus is on the championship at Fonda.
