Story By: ASHLEY MCCUBBIN / JADED MOTORSPORTS – COLDWATER, ONT – With success in the Super Stock division on his side, Jade Franklin will make the move up a division in 2018, set to compete in the APC Auto Parts United Late Models of Ontario Tour.
“My thoughts going into my first season of Pro Late Model are pretty good,” Franklin told SHORT TRACK MUSINGS. “I feel not just myself, but everyone on the team will adapt to the change quickly. I know how to drive a car so I feel like I will be able to figure out the new car quickly.”
Entering the year, the Jaded Motorsports driver is hoping to compete for wins each weekend, while taking home the Rookie of the Year Award.
“I expect that we will have a slow start to the season, but as it goes on, we will get better and better every weekend,” he added.
While the tour will take the teenager across the province of Ontario, it’s easy to understand being most excited about the track where he has the most experience to date, Sunset Speedway.
“I know my around that track and I think I can figure it out quickly,” he commented. “I am also looking forward to Sauble (Speedway) because in the past years that I have run there, we have always had good speed and I feel that will be a good track to compete for a win.”
Franklin enters the Late Model ranks following a successful Super Stock campaign which saw him compete for wins, scoring six top-fives and 18 top-10’s over the past three years. He also was able to reach victory lane, winning the b –feature at the Autumn Colours Classic in 2016, before winning a feature last summer at Sunset Speedway.
“Last season was an amazing year,” he said. “It started off slow but as the year went on, we kept getting better. it was amazing to finally break through and get my first win. I feel like I learned a ton and I am ready for the next step of my career.”
Looking back, Franklin feels the competition level experienced in the Super Stock ranks was the biggest takeaway that will help him moving up a division.
“The APC Series is one of the most competitive series out there and with all the competition I ave run with, it will help me with racing in the Pro Late Model Series,” he added.
The Jaded Motorsports team continues to search for marketing partners for the 2018 campaign, and will announce those sponsors closer to the start of the season.
