Story By: RACE OF CHAMPIONS – ELMA, NY – Race of Champions management is taking the first step in releasing its 2018 racing schedules with the publication of a 12 race schedule for the Race of Champions Asphalt Modified Series.
The schedule takes fans to premier racing facilities throughout the Northeast. These dates and locations will bring together an interesting blend of familiar venues, along with new and interesting facilities, giving everyone a variety of exciting events throughout the 2018 season to showcase the Race of Champions brand of racing.
Marquee events like the return of the Race of Champions to Nelles Corners, Ontario and the Jukasa Motor Speedway (formerly Cayuga) on Saturday, July 14, highlight the calendar. Jukasa underwent a multi-million dollar facelift over the course of the last 3 years and is a must-visit track for any racing fan in the region, located just a short drive from Buffalo, Toronto or London, Ontario, the track will host the Race of Champions Asphalt Modified Series and the International Super Modified Association on the same day, giving fans a wild day of racing. The Series premier event, the 68th Annual Race of Champions 250, will once again take place in North East, Pa., at the beautiful Lake Erie Speedway where fans in attendance witnessed a thrilling event in 2017, when Matt Hirschman of Northampton, Pa., recorded his record tying 5th victory in the prestigious event. Lake Erie will also host its traditional, June 9th date as well a new date for the Series, which will be announced in the near future once all logistics have been confirmed. The Series will appear on five occasions at Lancaster (N.Y.) National Speedway. The four traditional dates with the season opener on Saturday, May 12 which is the first race under the lights at the Speedway, followed on Thursday, June 28 by the Ole’ Boy Cup. A new event will appear on the schedule on Thursday, August 2. On Saturday, August 18, the Tribute to Tommy Druar and Tony Jankowiak 110 will take place. The Race of Champions Asphalt Modified Series will also pay its traditional visit to Holland International Speedway with a 100-lap blast on Saturday, July 21. (For more information visit www.hollandspeedway.com)
Chemung (N.Y.) Speedrome will host one date on Saturday, August 4 which has become a Series tradition and runs in conjunction with the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series in competition at Watkins Glen. (For more information visit www.chemungspeedrome.net)
On Friday, August 31, the series will pay its only visit to Spencer Speedway in Williamson, N.Y., which holds a rich tradition in Modified racing. (For more information visit www.spencerspeedway.org)
The Race of Champions Late Models and Super Stock schedules are beginning to take shape as well, with 6 dates for the Late Models, an additional two associated events as well as a 7 race slate for the Super Stock division. The Race of Champions Super Stock Series will visit Evergreen Speedway in St. Johns, Pa., for the first time on Sunday, May 20. The Race of Champions Asphalt Sportsman Modified Series continues to be a work in progress with three dates inked, while continuing to seek additional events for all Race of Champions divisions.
