Story By: SHAWN MILLER / BRIAN BROWN RACING – TULARE, CA – Brian Brown is excited about an upcoming World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series doubleheader that is sponsored by one of his key marketing partners.
Brown will invade the Stockton Dirt Track in Stockton, Calif., this Friday and Saturday for the FVP Platinum Battery Western Spring Shootout.
“This whole swing is based around FVP,” he said. “They’ve invested a lot in our team and the sport in general. Whenever they have these FVP events it’s important for us to run well. They’ll have the hospitality tent set up where we get to meet the FVP customers and employees. We’ll answer some questions for them. It’s an important part of our program.”
Brown posted a career-best fourth-place finish during the event last year.
“They reconfigured the track a little bit and we ran fourth there last year,” he said. “That was good because we had struggled there previously. Hopefully we can use our notes and that will lead to a couple of good runs this weekend.”
Brown competed at Thunderbowl Raceway last Friday during a World of Outlaws race.
“It wasn’t as good as we hoped,” he said. “We fought a few gremlins in hot laps. When you unload and have any issues at all it puts you behind the eight ball. We didn’t get a quality hot lap session in so that hurt us. We didn’t qualify bad, but we didn’t qualify as well as we needed to.”
Brown timed in ninth quickest in his group before he finished where he started – fifth – in a heat race. That lined him up on the outside of the ninth row for the A Main.
“You do what you can as a driver to make something happen, but it wasn’t our best night,” he said. “This sport can be mentally challenging if you let your highs get too high and your lows get too low. That’s what we have to concentrate on as a team. It’s a clean slate from race to race and we wiped the slate clean from last weekend in Tulare.”
Brown finished 18th in the main event. Saturday’s race was rained out.
