Story By: RON SZCZERBA / FONDA SPEEDWAY – FONDA, NY – This Saturday, June 30 at the “Track of Champions” Fonda Speedway, the Bill Ag Modified Elimination Race will highlight the racing program with a starting time 0f 7:00 p.m. All regular divisions will be in action this Saturday along with the CRSA Sprint Cars and there will also be a Kid’s Bike Giveaway by the Fonda Speedway Kid’s Club!
The Bill Ag event is held in honor of the late Bill Anagnostopulos who was the owner of the Winners Circle, a restaurant in Fonda where many drivers and fans frequent after the races on Saturday evening. This event has a unique format to it every year and was the idea of Dirt Track Digest’s own Mike Mallett, George Smith, GT Smith, and Scott Friers. Different sponsors come on board to support the event, which offers a great payout to the participating drivers.
In last year’s event, Tim Fuller was awarded a total of $2212.12 along with a pair of custom gloves, with other participating drivers earnings as follows: Ronnie Johnson $1,400 and a pair of custom gloves, Josh Hohenforst $275, Bobby Varin $275, Stewart Friesen $125, Jeremy Wilder $125, and Justin Boehler $100.
Eligible drivers for this year’s event will include the current top five in modified points Bobby Varin, Josh Hohenforst, Jeremy Wilder, Rocky Warner, and Tim Fuller who are all locked into the event. One final competitor who is currently sixth through 10th in points will be chosen by random draw and those eligible drivers are Demetrious Drellos, Jimmy Davis, Shaun Pangman, Cody Bleau, and Craig Hanson.
Sponsors looking to come on board to participate in the event can contact Scott Friers or anyone of the gentleman mentioned above.
The Fonda Speedway Museum will be open before the on track racing activities start and this week Demetrious Drellos will have the Elect James Glorioso Jr. for Montgomery County Sheriff/Bloomfields Florist #85 modified race car owned by Bill & Erik Nelson on display along with the Jeff Trombley #3A CRSA Sprint Car owned by Warren Alexson. The racecars will be on display at the museum starting at 4:00 p.m.
The museum will also be honoring the memory of Doc Blanchard with a memorabilia display inside the museum. Doc Blanchard Tribute Night at the speedway has been rescheduled for Saturday, July 7 after the rainout on June 23.
The Fonda Speedway Kid’s Club will be holding a bike giveaway this Saturday, June 30, which anyone can get involved in including drivers, owners, and fans. Ashley Abeling sets up the Kid’s Club under the grandstand at gate two every Saturday evening and she does a great job featuring different activities with the kids each and every week. If you would like to donate a bicycle, please contact Ashley via the Fonda Speedway Kids Club on Facebook or just bring a bike to the track that night!
