Story By: ROBBY KNOWLES / AIRBORNE PARK SPEEDWAY – PLATTSBURGH, NY – Saturday’s racing event will be the final point counting event for the Egglefield Ford DIRTcar 358-Modifieds and Poirier’s True Value DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds at Airborne Park Speedway.
This weekend’s racing program is sponsored by Egglefield Ford with a post time of 7 p.m. Grandstands will open at 5 p.m. with admission prices set at $12 for adults with kids ages 12 and under free of charge.
In addition to the Modifed and Sportsman divisions, Ernie’s Discount Tools Super Stocks, Mini-Mods and Strictly Stocks will be in action. Super Stock teams will compete in double features, making up for a lost event from rain.
Steve Bernier of St-Hyacinthe, QC is the current point leader in the Modified point standings. Bernier leads defending champion, Chris Raabe by 38 points. Bernier is looking to capture the title in his first full-season at Airborne.
Five-time Sportsman champion, Nick Heywood has put himself in a good position to make it six titles on Saturday. Heywood had a strong performance in the second feature last weekend to gain separation from second place point man, Jamy Begor. Heywood’s 51-point lead is enough that he just has to show up on Saturday and he will be the champion.
