Story By: RON SZCZERBA / FONDA SPEEDWAY – FONDA, NY – This Saturday, August 11 at the “Track of Champions” Fonda Speedway, School House Pools will sponsor a regular evening of racing action in all regular divisions with a starting time of 7:00 p.m. Also on the racing card will be the Classics on Dirt Vintage cars with the win the last time they competed at Fonda going to Jay Lais who got to celebrate a very special win with his father Tom Lais in victory lane.
The point races in all divisions are still within striking distance for many drivers as they compete for the coveted track championship in their respective divisions. Many drivers in the top five in their divisions are there because of consistency not because of wins as many of them have no wins during the 2018 season so far.
After last week’s racing program the leader of the modified division points changed hands, as Josh Hohenforst is now the point leader with 612 points on the strength of no wins, eight top fives, and 12 top 10’s. Following behind Hohenforst in points with their season finishes in parenthesis are Bobby Varin with 602 points (three wins, 10 top fives, 10 top 10’s), Jeremy Wilder with 584 points (no wins, nine top fives, 11 top 10’s), Rocky Warner with 522 points (no wins, two top fives, nine top 10’s), and defending track champion Tim Fuller with 506 points (one win, five top fives, eight top 10’s).
In the sportsman division, Tony Farone leads the way with 574 points based on no wins, six top fives, and 10 top 10’s. Following behind Farone are Nick Scavia with 571 points (three wins, seven top fives, 10 top 10’s), Ray Zemken with 570 points (no wins, four top fives, 10 top 10’s), Chad Edwards with 564 points (two wins, six top fives, nine top 10’s), and Cody Clark with 532 points (no wins, five top fives, 10 top 10’s).
Defending track champion Kenny Gates leads the way in the pro stock point standings with 650 points based on six wins, 11 top fives, and 11 top 10’s. Next in line is Josh Coonradt with 600 points (one win, nine top fives, 11 top 10’s), Chuck Dumblewski with 597 points (one win, 10 top fives, 11 top 10’s), Ivan Joslin with 542 points (no wins, six top fives, nine top 10’s), and Randy Cosselman with 520 points (one win, one top five, 11 top 10’s).

Following behind Young are Cliff Haslun with 606 points (one win, 10 top fives, 12 top 10’s), Jason Samrov with 604 points (five wins, 10 top fives, 11 top 10’s), Rob VanAernam with 530 points (two wins, eight top fives, 10 top 10’s), and Michael Arnold with 504 points (no wins, 10 top fives, 10 top 10’s).
