Story By: BRETT DEYO / SHORT TRACK SUPER SERIES – MALTA, NY – Albany-Saratoga Speedway promoter Lyle DeVore woke up to raindrops on Tuesday morning.
With thunderstorms predicted throughout the day and evening, DeVore has opted to postpone the Recovery Sports Grill ‘Stampede at ‘toga’ for the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco to Wednesday, August 15. The program will move in its entirety by 24 hours from Tuesday to Wednesday night.
“It’s raining here already and it’s not showing on the radar,” DeVore said. “There is a lot of rain out west (of the track) and it’s cycling around to get here. Wednesday looks more favorable, so we’ve opted to use our rain date.”
Headlining the program will be the STSS Modifieds in a 50-lap main paying $5,000 to win, $1,000 to win and $400 to take the green flag. Should 56 or more Modifieds sign in, the payout will be boosted to $7,500 to win and $500 to start via the American Racer ‘Bigger Show’ Challenge.
Also, ALL STSS Modifieds will leave with money thanks to a fully-paid B-Main courtesy of New Country Toyota of Clifton Park, Elmo’s Speed & Supply, Garrity Asphalt Reclaiming and DIG Race Products.
Bonuses, contingency awards and more further sweeten the pot for this event, Round No. 6 of the STSS Halmar International North Region. Billy Decker leads the point standings entering this event.
Albany-Saratoga Sportsman complete the open-wheel doubleheader.
On August 15, pit gates will be unlocked at 3:30 p.m. Grandstand gates open at 5 p.m. The drivers’ meeting and draw for heat positions begins at 5:40 p.m. with hot laps at 6 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m.
