News By: RACE PRO WEEKLY – SCHENECTADY, NY – After several phone calls and text messages with the Maxon Racing team and Lebanon Valley officials, RPW has been informed that the engine in Saturday night’s Sportsman-winning machine of Rob Maxon has been dyno’d by Hunt’s Machine in Schenectady, NY and deemed legal by DIRTcar and Lebanon Valley Auto Racing (LVAR).
Note: The official ruling is based on dyno test only. The engine was never pulled apart.
This means that Maxon is now officially credited with his second win of the 2018 at the Valley.
“The engine was on the dyno Tuesday morning at Hunt’s and they showed us that the motor was actually a little down on horsepower,” Maxon said. “They ran it on the dyno first thing that morning and it was actually down a little on horsepower. Hunt’s said it was probably time to change the valve springs which I had ordered last week.”
Representatives from both the Maxon team and the team of third-place finisher, Whitey Slavin who filed the protest, were at the engine shop on Tuesday to see the dyno pull. A representative Lebanon Valley’s officiating team and someone from Killer Crates Racing Engines, who supplied the motor to the Maxon team, was also there to witness.
Having the engine deemed legal is a big weight off Maxon’s shoulders.
“We are very much relieved that they found the motor legal,” he said. “That’s why we started buying motors new instead of purchasing used ones. We didn’t want to be taking someone else’s word that the engine was legal.”
Stay tuned to RPW for more information as it becomes available.
