Jeff Chapman & Jon Keister Earn Big Pay Days At Weedsport Kartway

Story By: DAN KAPUSCINSKI / WEEDSPORT KARTWAY – WEEDSPORT, NY – More than 330 entries officially opened Weedsport Kartway’s Octoberfest on Sunday afternoon with Jeff Chapman and Jon Keister earning the lions share of more than $13,000 in awarded prize money.

Rain and cold temperatures on Saturday meant that the entire Octoberfest program would run on Sunday afternoon, with some 24 races being completed following practice and time trials for all divisions.

“We can’t thank everyone enough for their support and understanding as we worked through our first karting event,” said Weedsport Speedway promoter, Jimmy Phelps. “We did our homework, but we were also learning on the fly. Our staff and racers did a great job of adapting through the day as we were making adjustments and worked to improve the flow of the facility, while continuing to run off races at a rapid pace. We have received great feedback and have began compiling notes to improve in the areas we struggled in this weekend. But overall, we’re thrilled with the support and end result.”

The end result saw Jeff Chapman claim the night’s main event trophy and $2,000 in the Pro Clone Heavy Octoberfest Finale over a field of 34 karts.

Chapman took advantage of contact between race leader Chris Natoli and Trent Curtis on the race’s final lap to steal the lead and the victory in the 40-lapper. Curtis would hold onto the runner-up position ahead of Jon Keister, Natoli and Josh Ostrander in the top five positions.

The Octoberfest Pro Clone Heavy A-Main paid out more than $5,000 in prize money to the Top 15 positions with more than 30 karts in attendance.

Keister would join Chapman as a Pro Clone winner on Sunday, topping the 26-kart Pro Clone Light Octoberfest A-Main to earn a $1,000 pay day. Keister narrowly edged Super DIRTcar Series Big Block Modified competitor, Mad-Max McLaughlin, for the top prize with Curtis, Jamie Shutts and Natoli finishing the front five positions.

Pro Blue Clone would see Owen Bird drive to victory lane as the winner of $500. Bird bested Logan Crisafulli, Dylan Duhow, Brenden Wallace and Dylan Begy for the top spot.

The other $500 to win prize would be presented in the NYS Invitational Clone Heavy event, which saw the top drivers in Clone Heavy points around the state of New York invited to compete. Jeremy Tuttle would go on to victory in the 25-lap special over Natoli, Jeff Anstett, Nick McGill and Logan Winn.

Other Pro event winners on Sunday included Matt Chavis (Super Heavy), Jake Holmes (Jr. Unrestricted), and Steven Rothwein (Winged Champ).

Junior competitors were also in action on Sunday in Jr. Red Clone and Jr. Purple Clone with each competing in double features.

Tyler Paige drove to victory in the first Red Clone feature over Parker Allen, Meadow Dgien, Connor Crane and Cooper McKeown. Paige would also top the second Red Clone main over Crane, Dgien, Jacob Schulz and Cody Stebbins.

Purple Clone would see another double feature winner in Riley Bloomingdale. Jacob Hutton, Chris Crane, Anthony Pollow and Tyler Chilson finished the top five in the first feature with James Donaldson, Hutton, Pollow and Cole McKeown running second through fifth in the second feature.

The day also featured preliminary main events for most classes as Bird (Blue Clone), Natoli (Clone Heavy), Devon Tonkin (Clone Light), Jason Moll (Super Heavy), Madison Myers (Jr. Unrestricted) and Nick McGill (Winged Champ) all visited victory lane.
