Story By: BRETT DEYO / SHORT TRACK SUPER SERIES – ACCORD, NY – Eat Thanksgiving dinner with the family, we’ll provide the dirt-track dessert.
On Saturday, November 24, the curtain comes down on the Northeast outdoor season in the Catskill Mountains of New York State. Accord Speedway, the quarter-mile clay oval operated by Gary and Donna Palmer, plays host to the ‘Gobbler’ season finale for the sixth consecutive year.
The ‘Gobbler’ is an annual post-Thanksgiving co-promotion involving the Palmer family and BD Motorsports Media LLC.
The headline event, of course, is the 50-lap main for the ‘Mashed Potato’ Modifieds paying a healthy $5,000 to the winner plus bonuses. The pair traded the lead on several occasions before Sheffield, Mass., driver Bachetti ultimately won out.
The Modifieds will compete under Short Track Super Series rules for this event.
The ‘Cranberry Sauce’ Crate 602 Sportsman are set for a 25-lap event offering $1,000 to take the victory.
Also on the docket, the ‘Pumpkin Pie’ Pure/Street Stocks in a Shootout Series event honoring the memory of Ron Wright, a Four Cylinder ‘Feast’ and a side of Enduro pudding.
Pit gates will open at 9 a.m. Grandstand gates will unlock at 10 a.m. Hot laps begin at noon and the first green flag flies at 1 p.m.
