Column By: ROBERT SYMONDS / RACE PRO WEEKLY – De Leon Springs, FL – Brandon Sheppard had dominated the last two nights at the DirtCar Nationals, capturing both Morton Buildings World of Outlaw Late Model Series wins at the Volusia Speedway Park. Would it be different for Night 3?
After finishing 2nd overall in time trials and winning heat race 5, it looked like the Rocket House car was going back to victory lane for the 3rd night in a row. Off the green flag for the feature, Sheppard stayed consistent. Running third behind the leader Tim McCreadie and Chris Madden, it would take 9 laps for Sheppard to get by both drivers and take the lead.
For much of the feature event, veteran drivers experienced a lot of damage throughout the race. The oddest of accidents included Tim McCreadie where the front of his Sweetners Plus Longhorn Chassis 39 may have hit a part of the track on the top side off turn 4 and the front nose look liked it exploded. Lots of damaged race cars did not cross the finish line at the end of tonight’s race.
Regardless of the heavily damaged cars, a few drivers managed to avoid trouble and try to run down Sheppard. One of these drivers, Mike Marlar. Marlar started in 23rd position and was up to 2nd on lap 47. Running down Sheppard, Marlar would be within a couple car lengths, however that is how close he would come as Sheppard would win his third feature in a row for the World of Outlaws Late Model Series.
