Story By: BOBBY CHALMERS / MAXON RACING – POWNAL, VT – Saturday night at the Lebanon Valley Speedway was nearly the perfect night for Rob Maxon & the Maxon Racing Team.
Maxon was able to take the victory in the heldover Sportsman feature and almost completed the sweep on the night, coming up one spot short to Jeff Watson in the regularly-scheduled feature event.
In the first race, Maxon passed Nikki Ouelette with seven laps remaining and went on to capture a very convincing win.
“Man, this track was good in the feature,” Maxon said. “We were working good on the bottom and you had to work in under someone and hope you could get off the corner. However, this car was fast tonight.”
Maxon then drove his #96 from 15th starting position in the regularly-scheduled feature and came up one spot short to the #10 of Jeff Watson who parked his special “Danny Watson” paint scheme in victory lane for the first time in 2019.
“I think with a couple more laps we may have been able to get by Jeff, but you never know,” he said. “He was starting to lose the nose of his car in turns three and four for a couple laps near the end. I was trying to work him down low but when he got his car to turn he came back down just enough to where I had to pinch mine and lost all my momentum.”
With a pair of top two finishes, Maxon and his Dane’s Auto Parts team are excited with the night and now sit atop the point standings, 12 markers ahead of second place John Virgilio.
“It was a very good night for our team,” he said. “This was a big win for my crew guys and it was a big night for us in the points. Hopefully we can keep things rolling at the Valley.”
Rob’s next race will be on June 29th when the Lebanon Valley Speedway presents an unbelievable fireworks display to help celebrate the fourth of July.
