Story By: BOBBY CHALMERS / PETER BRITTEN RACING – WEEDSPORT, NY – Peter Britten and his Troyer Race Cars #21A team are firing on all cylinders as the summer months begin to roll around, and it was evident this past weekend with two podium finishes at his two weekly tracks.
Peter was able to come home a with a solid third place finish on Friday night at Albany-Saratoga Speedway and backed that up with a near win on Saturday night at Lebanon Valley Speedway, finishing second to LJ Lombardo. This is the type of finishes that is giving the team momentum as they enter the month of July.
“Friday night showed just what type of team I have,” Britten said. “We chased a fuel issue almost all night my guys really dug down deep to try and find it. We did just in time for the feature and our car was a rocket. We got to third but it wouldn’t have happened without the hard work my team put in.”
Saturday at the Valley, Peter started 12th and with the final caution coming on lap six, Peter had to work his tail off to try and get to the front. He chased down the leader who had almost a full straightway lead on him, and got to the inside of Lombardo on two separate occasions.
Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to make his way by the no. 35 and had to settle for the runner-up spot.
“I don’t know what else we needed,” he said. “We just needed that little bit more I guess. Maybe have lap cars slow LJ up a little bit more so we could get a run. We gave it everything we had but he was just too good tonight. The momentum here on the top is just so hard to beat. I was working him on the bottom but just couldn’t quite get there.”
On Tuesday, Britten & Co. returned to Albany-Saratoga for the Big Show 11, and it was a tough night for the team. Peter did qualify through his heat but tire selection ended up being his undoing.
“Our car was good, but we had a wicked push throughout the race,” he said. “We chose a soft right front tire and it just didn’t work. Made the car way too tight and I almost pulled in to change it for a harder tire, but we just stayed on track until the end.”
Peter finished the event in 18th and now embarks on a seven race in nine day stretch. He’ll start Friday at Albany-Saratoga and then Saturday at Lebanon Valley. Sunday he’ll travel to Cornwall Motor Speedway with the Super DIRTcar Series and follow that up with another tour stop the next night, Monday at Plattsburgh Airborne Speedway.
Then, Peter will have two days off to regroup before heading to the Land of Legends Raceway for another Super DIRTcar Series race before heading back east to race at his two weekly tracks on Friday and Saturday.
