Story By: PAUL SZMAL / FREEDOM MOTORSPORTS PARK – DELEVAN, NY – Freedom Motorsports Park returned to action Friday Night as Prime Time Energy Services presented the return of the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints in their first Freedom appearance since 1999, along with the NY6A Tour, Pure Stocks, Mini Stocks, and Bandits.
The 25-lap Lucas Oil ESS ‘A’ Main brought 24 cars to the green, with Sammy Reakes IV grabbing the early lead as Billy Van Inwegen battled Brett Wright for second. The leaders began to catch traffic just a few laps in, and that bunched the top five cars as the race entered its middle stages. The red flag waved at lap 12 for a crash and flip by Brad Knab, who was OK. On the restart, Van Inwegen took the lead and Dylan Westbrook snagged the second spot, with Reakes IV falling back to fifth.
Westbrook closed in as the leaders were back in traffic over the final few laps and was presented an opportunity when Paulie Colagiovani tangled with another car on lap 23 to bring out the caution. Van Inwegen got the advantage on the restart to take the win over Westbrook, Wright, Johnathan Preston, and Scott Holcomb as your top five.
Lucas Oil ESS heats were won by Dylan Westbrook, Paulie Colagiovani, and Kyle Moffatt. Matt Tanner took the honors in the Dash
In the NY6A Tour main event, Nick Groff took the early lead from Nick Fauci and pulled away in lapped traffic as the race progressed. It looked like the race would run through with no cautions until Ivan Forney got tangled with the lapped car of Devin Clark, forcing a caution on lap 19 and setting up a one lap dash to the finish.
Groff’s car faltered on the restart and he stopped in turn one, handing the lead to Fauci. Fauci held off Mike Kaiser in the final lap for the win, followed by Eric Wise, Ivan Forney, and Mickey Cilberto.
NY6A Tour heats were won by Nick Fauci and Mike Kaiser.
The Pure Stock feature event began with MIke Parmenter and Daneil Gilbo battling for the lead. Larry Mitchell took the lead on lap 8 and Andy Michael moved into the second spot. In the second half of the race, Michael tried to run down the speedy Michell while Harrison and Wilcox fought hard for third spot. Mitchell maintained a gap over Micheal and took the victory, followed by Michael, Josh Wilcox, Dennis Harrison Jr, and Matt Putt.
Pure Stock heats were won by Dennis Harrison Jr and Larry Mitchell.
In the Mini Stock feature event, Duane Powers and Dante Mancuso pulled away at the start to battle for the top spot with Mancuso taking the lead on lap 5. Tyler Oakes had fallen back at the start and had charged back into the top five when he hit the fourth turn wall with six laps left, bringing out the caution flag. Mancuso pulled away from Powers after the restart and cruised home for the win, followed by Powers, Holden Heineman, Andy Shumaker, and Matt Mowrey.
Mini Stock heats were won by Duane Powers and Dante Mancuso.
The Bandit feature saw the entire field tangle in turn two of the opening lap, with Tierney White unable to continue. Cameron Sherwood outran Cody Atwater on the restart and took the win.

A special Match Race was contested between the top 3 in Lucas Oil ESS points and the top 3 in the NY6A Tour points, using NY6A Tour cars. Chuck Hebing took the win and the $500 payday.
Freedom Motorsports Park returns to action on Friday, August 9th with the Pete Loretto Memorial at lap 8 for Super Late Models, which includes extensive lap money.DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks, and Bandits will be in action, with racing presenteed by Pepsi and Sahlen’s, with buy one get one hot dogs during the night while supplies last. Racing begins at 7:30 p.m.
