Story By: DAVE BUCHANAN / RANSOMVILLE SPEEDWAY – RANSOMVILLE, NY – The “Beasts of the Northeast,” the Super DIRTCar Series Big Block Modifieds, rumble back to Ransomville Speedway on Tuesday, August 6 for the 35th annual Summer Nationals presented by Busch Beer, Wendt’s Propane, Stirling Lubricants, Advanced Demolition Services and Huron Plumbing.
The 100-lap Summer Nationals is the most prestigious race on the Ransomville schedule. Last season Stewart Friesen held off Mat Williamson to capture a $6,000 payday. Friesen joined DIRTCar Modified legends “Barefoot” Bob McCreadie, Alan Johnson and Danny Johnson as six-time winners of the event. He has the potential to break that four-way tie to become the all-time winningest driver in Summer Nationals history.
Two of the top five drivers in Super DIRTCar Series points as of July 25 make their Friday night home at the “Big R”. Erick Rudolph and Mat Williamson have been thrilling crowds all season in the Krown Undercoating 358 Modifieds as the pair have combined for five feature wins in 2019.
Williamson currently ranks third in SDS standings with six top tens in eight races. He also leads the Super DIRTCar 358 Modified Series standings with three wins in five events. Rudolph has scored two victories on the SDS Big Block Modified trail in 2019, including a win on July 22 at Autodrome Drummond in Quebec. He sits fifth in the series standings as of July 25.
The Race of Champions Dirt Sportsman Series makes its very first visit to Ransomville as part of the Summer Nationals on August 6. The RoC Dirt Sportsman Series features the top drivers from the Niagara region. Former Ransomville track champion, James Michael Friesen, has won two out of the first three races of the RoC Series season. He trails points leader Brad Rouse by just five markers. The best of the RoC Series will go head-to-head against Ransomville regulars Brett Senek, Derek Wagner, Andrew Smith and more.
