Story By: JOHN TIFF / UTICA-ROME SPEEDWAY – VERNON, NY – The Utica-Rome Speedway comes back to life Sunday night for the annual Bobby Page Foundation backpack giveaway as well as autograph night in a program presented by A-Verdi Storage Containers and Parks Trucking and Paving. There will be 55 lucky kids that leave the track with backpacks full of school supplies for the 2019 school year.
Making the event in more special is that it’s just $20 a carload to get in for the night. The event features the DirtTrackDigest.com DIRTcar 358-Modifieds, Broedel Fuel Group DIRTcar Sportsman, the Ted’s Body Shop DIRTcar Pro Stocks and the Bernie’s Extreme Performance Rookie Sportsman.
The autograph session will be on the speedway at 6pm. With hot laps go going promptly at 6:45pm.
Erick Rudolph currently leads the DirtTrackDigest.com DIRTcar 358-Modified point chase. The Ransomville, N.Y., driver has been a dominant force in the division winning four races in 2019. Defending champion Billy Dunn currently sits second trailing by only 22 points. Pat Ward, Dave Marcuccilli and Billy Whittaker complete the top five.
Like Rudolph, Janczuk has won four races in the Broedel Fuel Group DIRTcar Sportsman division. He’s got just a slim 18 point lead over Kyle Inman. Alan Fink, Chris Mackey sit third and fourth with Dave Moyer and A.J. Filbeck tied for fifth.
Josh Coonradt and Nick Stone sit at the top of the Ted’s Body Shop DIRTcar Pro Stock points. Coonradt is a two-time winner on the season with just eight points separating him and Nick Stone. Mike Welch, Shane Henderson and Pete Stefanski make-up the rest of the top five.
The grandstands admission price for this event is $20 a carload. Those coming by themselves also receive a discount as it’s just $10 for admission. Pit prices for the event are $27 for all DIRTcar Members and $30 for non-members. Pit gates will open at 4:30pm while spectator gates open at 5pm. Racing starts at 7pm.
