Column By: DYLAN FRIEBEL / RPW – MIDDLETOWN, NY – In the Small Block Modified feature which accompanied the 80-lap Big Block main on Friday night at the Orange County Fair Speedway, Larry Wight took home the victory.
It was Wight and Billy Dunn leading the field to green. Wight took control of the race with a few early cautions waving to slow the event. However, the middle part of the 25-lap event went smooth.
That was, until lap 23 when the caution came out for Brian Krummel who slowed. Then on the restart, Stewart Friesen hopped a wheel in the CG Morey #14 and went into the turn two wall.
That brought the field all back together for a two-lap shootout. Dunn tried to run the ‘Larry Line’ on the outside of the race track, doing everything he could to get the around the Gypsum Racing #99L, but couldn’t get it done.
Wight went on to score the victory in the Small Block feature.
“It’s great winning the Small Blocks and finishing fifth in the Big Blocks tonight, Wight said. “This really helps for tomorrow. We have some great cars but the surface needs a little work.”
What does Wight think will make the racing even better on Saturday?
“The track has multiple grooves for a few laps and then goes away,” he said. “But I think if we could run D300 (soft right rear tire) instead of a D400 (hard right rear tire), it wouldn’t rubber up like it did tonight. Overall, we’re happy.”
Top five: Larry Wight, Billy Dunn, Gary Edwards Jr., Pat Ward, Brett Hearn
