Column By: DYLAN FRIEBEL / RPW – WEST LEBANON, NY – Saturday Night at Lebanon Valley Whitey Slavin produced his first win in 2 years by winning the Mr. Crate Track USA.
Slavin had a good heat and pill draw, with the second starting spot on a track where position can be a king, it was tonight. However the first part of the race was plagued by the yellow silk, Whitey figured that might happen.
“You expect all the cautions.” Whitey said. “There are some new people to the track here tonight. I thought that the first half was going to be pretty brutal with caution, we were just hoping we could keep the lead.”
After lap 11, everything went smooth sailing for the 53 machine.
“The car was pretty neutral the whole night.” He said. “Track position was key, it was good starting 2nd. We drew second, as the last pill I was not upset with what that draw. To win next to Mr. Dirt is awesome, my dad won MR. Dirt in 1980 here. I have always wanted this win, wanted to check it off.”
With this being his first win in two years, it is remarkable to think that Slavin won a championship in 2018 without any wins.
“We won last year with no wins.” he said. “It’s been almost 2 years and this one feels good. We are not out of the championship hunt but it will be hard to get there doubt, three in a row would be awesome here but to win this event, boy that’s special.”
