RPW Exclusive: Momentum Is Definitely In The Kenny Tremont Camp After Big Win At Lebanon Valley

Column By: DYLAN FRIEBEL / RPW – WEST LEBANON, NY – Mr. DIRT Track USA. Its the hardest race for an outsider to win on the Super Dirt Car Series schedule, year in and year out. There has only been 2 ‘Invaders’ to win this event since the year 2000 and that was Stewart Friesen and Matt Sheppard in 2015&16.
Well Saturday night, the fan favorite won it yet again. Kenny Tremont took the lead on lap 93 and pulled away to win. The 14 time track champion might just have the place figured out.
When the event started it was Ronnie Johnson and Brett Hearn leading them down to the green flag, While RJ shot out to the early lead and the race settled in, a crash around lap 10 involving the broken machine of Mike Mahaney, Jack Lehner and Brian Berger brought a long yellow period and it would seem as if the yellow silk was going to play a factor.
With abrasive track conditions, we saw more than a few blown rear tires, however the Sand Lake Slingshot came alive around the lap 40 mark after drawing position 8 in the redraw. Well he rode high, wide and handsome around 7th place started Wayne Jelley and thats when everyone perked up.
With battles through the field between him and the Doctor, Bachetti, Hearn and others, everyone wondered if he had used up his stuff too soon but he stalked the 2RJ and made his move on lap 91. As they battled side by side for a lap, it was the 115 of Tremont who pulled ahead and won the Mr. Dirt Car USA for the second year in a row.
“We weren’t that worried about using our stuff up.” he said. “This car has been great all year long, I just had to keep the car straight. Every car you pass up there is a championship calbier car, you have earn every spot up there and when we got to Ronnie he put up a hell of a fight, and i did not think we were going to be able to deal with him to be honest.”
With the win for the second year in a row, its the second year Tremont and his team have a Guarnteed Startig spot for Dirt Week.
“It’s big to have that.” He said. “It’s always big wether it was on the mile or Oswego. If something were to happen in qualifying we have that to fall back on.”
With now wins on Friday and Saturday this week, it is great momentum going into Sundays Vermont 200 at Devils Bowl Speedway.
“It would be neat to win on Sunday.” Ken said. “We have swept the weekend a few times in my career. These would all be neat as they are the end of year races. 200 lapper tomorrow, 101 today.”
With everything Tremont has won on Dirt, there is one race that is at the top of his bucket list to win before the end of career.
“Eastern States.” He said. “It would be nice. I think the best we have ever done there is a 4th, so not even close but if i did have the wish list that would be #1.”
With the two wins already this weekend, Kenny Tremont is the hottests driver on dirt going into Sunday’s Vermont 200, however the ‘King Of The Valley’ proved once again why MR. Dirt Track USA is the hardest race for an ‘Invader’ to win on Saturday Night.
