Story By: SHAWN MILLER / BRIAN BROWN RACING – CONCORD, NC – Qualifying put Brian Brown in a good position last weekend during the Can-Am World Finals.
Brown qualified in the top 10 in his group for both nights of the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series event at The Dirt Track at Charlotte, where the season wrapped up.
“Qualifying is something we’ve always been decent at,” he said. “We were really good in our Saturday portion and just missed it a little in our Friday portion to be seventh quick. Those four laps are pretty important. We had some good notes and our engines are good so it played out well.”
Nov. 8 – The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, N.C. – Qualifying: 7; Heat race: 2 (3); Dash: 2 (2); Feature: 7 (4).
“We were able to run second in a heat and second in a dash,” Brown said. “I felt like the track was going to lay rubber. We freed our car up a little and tightened up a couple different ways rather than putting a big left rear tire on. We couldn’t get in the corner like we wanted to without getting tight. At that place you have to be able to roll the corner. It’s a wheel speed and mile per hour race and we were a little too tight. It was still a good night all around.”
Nov. 9 – The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, N.C. – Qualifying: 5; Heat race: 1 (2); Dash: 6 (5); Feature: 12 (12).
“We won the heat and finished six in our dash,” Brown said. “We just missed it a little with the setup in the main event. We thought the track was going to be more like it was on Friday. When they pushed the infield tires in we ran in grease and water for the first little bit. It was pretty one dimensional and tough to pass. We thought it’d get slick again like Friday. When they put those tires it was a little slimy. We kept throwing stuff across the track and that made it pretty dirty, especially in turns three and four.”
