Column By: ROBERT SYMONDS / RPW – CONCORD, NC – As the Morton Buildings World of Outlaws Late Models Series qualifying was wrapping up on Thursday night, the skies opened up forcing the DIRTcar Officials to cancel the rest of qualifying events.
It only took a few minutes to realize that the rain was not just a passing shower but a torrential downpour. During this time, DIRTcar Officials made decisions on the upcoming events and Shane Andrews promptly made fans aware within 5 minutes after the rain started coming down.
“Tomorrow (Friday) night the Gates will open at 3:00pm,” Andrews announced over the loud speaker and over the DirtVision airwaves. “Opening Ceremonies will be at 3:45pm with Super DIRTcar Series Big Block Heat Races for the Friday night portion will be at 4:00pm. There will be NO Last Chance Showdowns for the Big Block Modifieds.”
“The Morton Buildings World of Outlaws Late Models will use their two timed qualifying laps for their qualifying spots for the heat races,” Rick Eshelman explained. “Lap 1 will be used to put them into their Friday Night heat race and Lap 2 will be used for their Saturday Night heat race.”
As those two were announced with changes, Johnny Gibson announced that the NOS Energy World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series has nothing that will be changed as qualifying had already been completed for their heat race lineups.
