Story By: JUSTIN SNYDER / PORT ROYAL SPEEDWAY – PORT ROYAL, PA – As a result of continued restrictions put in place via Governor Tom Wolf prohibiting large gatherings in the state of Pennsylvania due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Port Royal Speedway has made the difficult decision to suspend all racing activities for the 2020 season until further notice.
Original plans were to cancel/postpone racing at the Speedway for the month of April with the intentions of revisiting possible racing in May. However, with the restrictions still in place and without having a clear idea of when large gatherings would be allowed, it became clear to Speedway officials that this was the proper route to take.
The safety of our employees, drivers and fans remain a priority and we will continue to monitor the situation in coordination with federal, state, local and public health officials, along with information based on the recommendations of the CDC to make the best decisions in regards to a return to racing.
We understand the severity of the situation and will continue to do our part to ensure our fellow Pennsylvanians remain healthy and safe. From the Juniata County Agricultural Society, track officials and promoters and everyone who makes racing possible weekly at the Speedway, we thank you for your patience and understanding and look forward to returning to racing as soon as possible.
