Story By: JOE GRABIANOWSKI / DIRTCAR – CONCORD, NC – Due to the extended restrictions around COVID-19 in New York State and Canada, the Hoosier Racing Tire Weekly Championship will continue beyond Labor Day to support all of the DIRTcar sanctioned tracks in the Northeast and Canada for DIRTcar Big Blocks, 358 Modifieds, Sportsman, and Pro Stocks.
A substantial increase in the purse for the Hoosier Racing Tire Weekly Championship now pays out to the top 20 drivers in each division.
“With how the scope of DIRTcar racing in the Northeast and Canada has developed throughout the summer, we decided to keep the Hoosier Racing Tires Weekly going and will end on Sunday, October 18,” noted DIRTcar Northeast Director Dean Reynolds.
Despite the restrictions, many DIRTcar tracks are adopting new models to make race nights financially viable without or with limited fans. DIRTcar and Hoosier Racing Tire want to see our tracks race as much as they can as well as give our drivers something exciting to shoot for into October.
“Some areas, especially Canada, weren’t able to start racing until later in the season. With the points set up as your best 16 finishes, this will now enable teams from these areas the ability to get to that number or possibly even more,” noted Reynolds.
“Since we really haven’t been able to get any of our Series off the ground, our focus has turned to the Hoosier Weekly points. We have increased the payout for 2020 where the top 20 in each division will receive a cash bonus,” Reynolds continued, “The tracks that have been fortunate enough to hold events, we also want to keep the points going so they can get as many entries in the pits as possible.”
2020 has seen phenomenal Big Block battles at Lebanon Valley Speedway, Land of Legends Raceway, Albany-Saratoga Speedway, Lernerville Speedway, and Orange County Fair Speedway where many stars from the Super DIRTcar Series have been competing weekly.
DIRTcar 358 Modifieds have been entertaining race fans via live stream at Can-Am Speedway and Thunder Mountain Speedway. Canadian tracks are getting into the act with 358 races at Autodrome Granby, Cornwall Motor Speedway, Merrittville Speedway, Autodrome Drummond, Brockville Ontario Speedway, Le RPM Speedway, and Humberstone Speedway,
The points for the 358’s are very tight with Steve Bernier, Lance Willix and Jordan McCreadie atop the standings looking to take home the crown.
Almost every track sanctions DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds as they are the most numerous and competitive division for entry-level and veteran drivers alike. Sportsman Modified driver Zach Sobotka was the first driver to reach 16 DIRTcar sanctioned starts in 2020 and currently leads the points standings.
The full-fender frenzy of the DIRTcar Pro Stocks are putting on excellent shows at Albany-Saratoga Speedway, Glen Ridge Motorsports Park, Lebanon Valley Speedway, as well as Autodrome Granby and Cornwall.
The Hoosier Racing Tire Weekly Championship rules are the same across all four DIRTcar Northeast divisions.
