This time, succeeding in accomplishing back-to-back top-five outcomes during Ironman 55 action at I-55 Raceway in Pevely, Missouri, highlighted with a fourth-place outcome during the Night Before The Ironman on Friday evening, August 7.
The ten-time WoO champion raced as high as third before fading to fourth by feature’s end, forced to do battle with the likes of Logan Schuchart and Rico Abreu.
Schatz, driver of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing/Advance Professional/Carquest Auto Parts/Technet Professional Automotive Service/Ford Performance/Mobil 1/Sage Fruit/Curb Records/Absolute Automation & Security/Hunt Brothers Pizza/Digital Ally/J&J Auto Racing/No. 15 sprint car, followed-up his fourth-place result with a fifth-place finish during the 55-lap finale on Saturday, battling within the top-ten the entire distance before settling one position ahead of where he started.
With all results considered, Donny Schatz now owns 22 top-ten finishes in his first 29 World of Outlaws feature starts and sits a mere-20 points behind Brad Sweet for the championship lead. The three-time winner in 2020, most recently scoring the $25,000 Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup at Lernerville Speedway, has finished inside the top-five in 15 of those 22 top-ten appearances.
Donny Schatz and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing will continue their 2020 campaign with the three-day One And Only at Knoxville Raceway on Thursday through Saturday, August 13-15. Certainly no stranger to the Sprint Car Capital of the World, Schatz is a ten-time Knoxville Nationals champion and will seek to add the One And Only prize of $50,000 to his ongoing list of racing accomplishments.
