RPW Column: Following My Dream…Finally, A Chance To Make My Living In The Sport I Love

Column By: MIKE WARREN / RPW – COLCHESTER, VT – Following your dreams isn’t always easy.

Most of us grind, day after day, in jobs we don’t have passion for. However, it pays the bills.

Even with the hustle and bustle of trying to make a living, your dreams never leave you. So when opportunity knocks on your door, you open it. Maybe, just maybe, it’s something you can’t pass up.

That’s the case for me this season. Now, it’s time for a new chapter.

All my life, I’ve wanted to work in sports. Whether it was as a play-by-play broadcaster or a writer, I’m a sports guy. It’s no secret that racing is my favorite, and now, I get the chance to make it part of my life every day.

With that, I’m happy to announce that I’ve accepted a position with World Racing Group as the Public Relations Coordinator for the World Of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series.

To say I’m excited about this opportunity would be an understatement. I now get to live out my dream while going to races for a living. However, I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t bittersweet.

With this new position, unfortunately, I won’t be returning to either Albany-Saratoga or Airborne Park Speedway this year.

I want to take this time to thank everyone who’s been involved with my announcing career over the last 11 years. Without you, this move isn’t possible. It’s a support system I hope stays with me for what comes next.

I’m really looking forward to learning a new group of drivers while visiting many of the tracks that are crown jewels across this great country of ours.

Ending this chapter of my life is tough, but I feel there’s a bright future with what lies ahead. I can’t wait.

While It’ll be weird not seeing the beasts of the northeast, or the shower of 602 Crate Power every weekend, I’m excited to get down and dirty with the Outlaws and start a brand new chapter I know I won’t ever forget. However, I can still follow along on DIRTvision, and you should too…that is, if you can’t make it to a track.

From the bottom of my heart, I thank you all.
