Story By: CHRIS MOORE / SHORT TRACK SUPER SERIES – FONDA, NY – One. Huge. Weekend. In mid-September, the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco joins forces with the ‘Fonda 200’ to create one of the biggest weekends in STSS history.
The STSS sanctions the ‘Fonda 200’ as a points-paying event for the first time in history. The historic 200-lapper pays a whopping $53,000 to win and $1,000 just to take the green.
The STSS Modified purse totals nearly $140,000, plus a fully paid B-Main for all Modified competitors.
The 200-lapper also serves as the penultimate race of the Hurlock Auto & Speed North Region $12,000 championship pursuit for the STSS teams.
It all begins on Thursday, September 16 with an open practice night and the ‘Underdog 33’ for any Modified driver who has not won anywhere in 2021.
Camper parking opens at 9 a.m. on Thursday. Speedway gates open at 4 p.m. with practice beginning at 7 p.m.
On Friday (September 17), camper parking opens at 10 a.m. Gates Open at 4 p.m. and hot laps start at 6 p.m.
The STSS Modifieds will run 15-lap qualifying races to lock into Saturday’s ‘Fonda 200.’ Joining the Modifieds on Friday’s program will be the CRSA Sprint Cars, Pro Stocks, Street Stocks, and Four Cylinders.
The band Chasing Neon will perform in the Entertainment Building on campus beginning roughly around 10:30 p.m.
The main event takes place on Saturday, as the STSS Modifieds run their fully paid B-Main and the historic 200-lapper.
Joining the Modifieds on Saturday (September 18) are the STSS Crate 602 Sportsman running a 25-lap, $2,000-to-win event as part of the Precision Hydraulic & Oil North Region.
Gates open at 2 p.m. on Saturday with Hot Laps beginning at 5 p.m. and Opening Ceremonies taking place at 5:50 p.m.
