Column By: JIM CLARKE / BROCKVILLE ONTARIO SPEEDWAY – BROCKVILLE, ONT – Racers always dream of the perfect season. A year where they win every event on the schedule. The odds of it happening are rare but in 2021, Bobby Herrington came very close to making the dream come true.
After spending a couple of years away from the sport to get married and start a family, the 30-year-old from Elginburg, Ontario returned to the DIRTcar Sportsman-Modified ranks at Brockville Speedway, wheeling the No. 88z ride for Dawdy Racing. In his first-ever tenure as a hired-gun in someone else’s equipment, Herrington says the team gave him a great car all year.
“We were fast since the first laps of the season,” said Bobby Herrington, who leads the Ogilvie’s Auto & Fleet Series Sportsman standings and clinched the 2021 track championship with another trip to the winner’s circle Saturday, September 4th. “Probably the best thing about our success this year is the victory lane moments I have been able to share with my wife Amber and our daughter Zoey. Those are family moments we’ll enjoy forever.”
Bobby Herrington and his car owners Kim and Dan Dawdy would like to thank the team’s sponsorship partners, friends and fans for supporting the program this year. They’re hoping to continue the momentum of their 7 main event wins in 8 starts season as they head into the running of Brockville’s King Edward Auto Parts – Carquest/Dirt Outlaw Apparel Northeast Fall Nationals. It will be Herrington’s first Fall Nationals’ start since 2016, when he campaigned his 358 Modified.
Sportsman-Modified teams will get 2 kicks at the can during the season-ending double-dip. Friday, October 15th will see the finale of the Ogilvie’s Auto and Fleet Series, with a 40-lap main event. The next night, a 50-lap feature will challenge the top teams in the business, during the Mr. DIRTcar Championship Series crowning event.
