Story By: STEVE INCH / SELINSGROVE SPEEDWAY – SELINSGROVE, PA – The stars and cars of the Short Track Super Series (STSS) will open Selinsgrove Speedway’s 2022 season in the Icebreaker 40 for modifieds at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 19.
Joining the STSS modifieds will be the crate 602 sportsman modifieds on the dual-card program.
Last year more than 100 combined modified racers converged at the Snyder County half-mile oval in search of an opening day victory as part of the track’s historic 75th anniversary season.
The STSS modifieds will once again compete in a 40-lap main event paying $5,000 to win, $1,000 for 10th, and $400 to take the green flag out of a purse totaling more than $25,000!
The crate 602 sportsman modifieds will duel for $1,500 to win and $100 to start the division’s 25-lap feature.
Pit gates on March 19 will open at 10 a.m. with grandstand gates at 11 a.m. Hot laps are slated for 1:15 p.m. and qualifying at 2 p.m.
In last year’s race, Andy Bachetti of Sheffield, Mass., scored his first Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series Fueled By Sunoco victory since 2019. Grant Hilfiger of Canadensis was the winner of the crate 602 sportsman feature.
Speedway officials will be at Selinsgrove Ford for Race Day at the Dealership 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, March 5, when fans can pick 2022 printed schedules and renew their season reserved seats and VIP suites for the season.
The track will hold a practice session for any division on the 2022 schedule 1-4 p.m. Saturday, March 12.
To close out the opening month of racing, the Lelands.com 410 winged sprint cars will make their first of 11 appearances at the track at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 27, along with the MAPCO Machine Shop limited late models and A&A Auto Stores roadrunners.
