Story By: TYLER ALTMEYER / CJB MOTORSPORTS – CARLISLE, PA – Spencer Bayston’s rookie season with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series is officially underway.
Despite a tough start to his recent three-race campaign that was plagued with ultra-fast and heavy track conditions, the Lebanon, Indiana, native made the most of his DIRTcar Nationals visit and attained a trio of main event starts, eventually highlighting the week with a B-Main victory and a five-spot feature jump to finish 16th in the Volusia Speedway Park finale on Saturday.
“We’re glad to get the first weekend out of the way. I really feel like we only got two nights of racing in this week, especially with how the track was on Thursday. Overall, the progress we made from Thursday to Saturday was not supported by our results, but I feel like we did, in fact, make a ton of progress,” Spencer Bayston said, pilot of the CJB Motorsports/Signing Day Sports/JRC Transportation/Nyce Crete and Landis/Ecynbro Trucking/C&S Lawn and Landscape/No. 5 sprint car. “Hats off to this entire team. I’m privileged to be in the position that I am in.”
Before capping his weekend with a 16th-place score, Bayston and CJB Motorsports opened their DIRTcar Nationals campaign with a pair of 18th-place finishes on Thursday and Friday, starting 19th and 13th, respectively.
Off and on wet weather throughout the weekend leading up to the DIRTcar Nationals ultimately led to the All Star Circuit of Champions portion being canceled on Tuesday and Wednesday. The immense saturation eventually resulted in the aforementioned hot and heavy surface on Thursday. Track conditions improved significantly for Friday and Saturday.
“We have a lot of season ahead of us with a lot left on the table for me to learn. Everyone operates at a high level at these World of Outlaws races,” Bayston continued. “I’m looking forward to the progress CJB Motorsports and I will make together.”
