Story By: TYLER ALTMEYER / HOBAUGH MOTORSPORTS – CHICORA, PA – Although the team’s 2022 season commenced with a trip to the Sunshine State, joining the All Star Circuit of Champions for a two-day visit to East Bay Raceway Park in early February, George Hobaugh and Hobaugh Motorsports jumped on the opportunity to help another season commence, this time joining the infamous Pennsylvania Posse in Port Royal Speedway’s 80th annual season opener on Sunday afternoon, March 6.
Contending with Pennsylvania’s finest, as well as some outside invaders, Hobaugh ultimately persevered and found his way into the $5,000-to-win Port Royal lid-lifter, securing a spot by transferring through the afternoon’s B-Main. The Chicora, Pennsylvania, native would go on to start the A-main, but retire early; Hobaugh was scored 26th.
There were 42 cars on hand for the Sunday program.
“It feels good to get the Pennsylvania season underway. We enjoy racing at Port Royal Speedway and our goal is to get out there as much as we can. It’s one of the nicest facilities in the country and it has the tendency to fit my driving style,” Hobaugh said, driver of the Hobaugh Motorsports, Krill Recycling, Laskowski Plumbing, Ridgeview Security, Hobaugh’s Auto Parts, Colliers Custom Kitchen and Bath, No. 40 sprint car. “Hats off to all of our partners for allowing trips like that to be possible. We did some note taking on Sunday so I’m ready to get back there and put some things to the test.”
