Story By: TYLER ALTMEYER / RICO ABREU RACING – ST. HELENA, CA – Rico Abreu is on a roll. Not only has the St. Helena, California, native earned three consecutive top-ten finishes, but all three have occurred with The Greatest Show On Dirt, securing his feats during stops at Cotton Bowl Speedway in Page, Texas, and Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, California.
Activating his streak with an impressive rally from 18th to finish tenth in Cotton Bowl’s Texas Two-Step finale on Saturday, March 5, Abreu’s most recent outing with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series resulted in a pair of top-fives, one of which the product of a nine-spot rally from row seven.
Abreu, driver of the Rico Abreu/Curb Agajanian Racing, Abreu Vineyards, Rowdy Energy, Curb Records, Stadelhofer Construction, Wiser Agency, Tony Toste Construction, Lucas Oil Products, ShopRico.com, No. 24 sprint car, earned his back-to-back top-five performances at Tulare’s Thunderbowl Raceway, finishing fourth and fifth, respectively, on Friday and Saturday, March 11-12.
Although his weekend ended with the aforementioned hard-fought charge from 14th to fifth, getting by Visalia’s Cory Eliason in the last corner to seal his top-five fate, perhaps Abreu’s most impressive display occurred one night prior when the Rowdy Energy Athlete started third and maintained his place within the top-five, eventually battling for the lead with local-gone-national hotshot Gio Scelzi. Abreu battled by Scelzi briefly, but the Fresno native returned the favor, ultimately crossing back under Abreu’s familiar No. 24.
Current World of Outlaws point leader, David Gravel, and defending NASCAR Cup Series champion, Kyle Larson, also battled by the Rowdy Energy No. 24; Abreu raced on to finish fourth.
“What a weekend for this team. I love racing at Thunderbowl Raceway. It’s one of my favorite race tracks in the country and it really fits my driving style. We were able to really capitalize on that this weekend,” Rico Abreu stated, a former Trophy Cup champion in Tulare. “I can’t thank my team enough for their hard work. Ricky (Warner) got this Rowdy Energy No. 24 hooked up and I’m confident these results are only going to continue. I’m looking forward to our upcoming weekend at Merced and Ocean.”
