Story By: TYLER ALTMEYER / TONY STEWART RACING – BROWNSBURG, IN – Ten-time World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion, Donny Schatz, put on an impressive display during his two-day visit to Cotton Bowl Speedway in Paige, Texas, and capped the weekend with a pair of top-ten finishes, highlighting the trip with a hard charging performance in Friday’s opener that propelled the Fargo North, Dakota, native into the top-five.
Utilizing Cotton Bowl’s narrow bottom groove, Schatz powered himself from 13th to fifth, a slight case of redemption after qualifying 19th out of 29 entries.
Schatz, driver of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing, Advance Auto Parts, Carquest, Ford Motor Company, Ford Performance, Curb Records, Sage Fruit, Digital Ally, Absolute Automation and Security, Hunt Brothers Pizza, Elliott’s Custom Trailers and Carts, No. 15 sprint car, concluded the Texas Two-Step with an eighth-place score on Saturday, this time climbing ahead two positions from the outside of row five.
With all results considered, Donny Schatz is now tied for second in the World of Outlaws driver championship standings, a mere-16 points from fellow title contender and leader, David Gravel. In addition, Schatz is now five for five in the top-ten column this season with the Greatest Show On Dirt. Gravel is the only other World of Outlaws competitor to also own five consecutive top-ten finishes.
