Story By: TOM BOGGIE / ALBANY-SARATOGA SPEEDWAY – MALTA, NY – When Albany-Saratoga Speedway officially kicks off its season on Friday, April 15, the premier division will have a new title sponsor.
Promoter Lyle DeVore announced this week that NAPA Auto Parts will be the new title sponsor for the modifieds after finalizing a deal with Jeff Shorr, the owner/president of Saratoga Auto Group, which has a half-dozen NAPA stores under its umbrella.
“The track has such a loyal following,” said Shorr. “We felt it would be a good fit for our customer base. We’ve wanted to get involved for a couple of years but weren’t sure how to do it, so I finally sat down with Lyle and we put something together.”
“I’m really excited about working with Jeff,” said DeVore. “Like a lot of our corporate partners, their customer base includes many of our loyal race fans. But because NAPA has national name recognition, this will help us expand our sponsorship footprint.”
With the addition of the NAPA Modifieds, all of the divisions at Albany-Saratoga Speedway will have title sponsors for the 2022 season. Other title sponsors are Northeast Paving and Sealcoat (sportsman), Eastwood Detailing (pro stocks), Haun Welding (limited sportsman) and Lake Auto Parts (street stocks).
“We’ve got all our I’s dotted and t’s crossed, and now we’re ready to start racing,” said DeVore.
“I like the idea of doing local branding,” said Shorr. “This is our first year, so we plan to work with Lyle and built a program that fits NAPA and fits him.”
The 57th Season Opener, presented by Bart Contracting and Schaghticoke Wine & Spirits, is scheduled for Friday, April 15, highlighted by a 57-lap modified feature, paying $5,700 to win. Both the sportsman and pro stock divisions will be competing for a $1,000 payday for the winner. Racing will begin at 7 p.m.
In the case of rain on April 15, the Season Opener will be held on Sunday, April 17.
