Story By: TIM BALTZ / CAN-AM SPEEDWAY – LAFARGEVILLE, NY – The 48th season opener at the Can Am Speedway saw a mix of veterans and new faces in victory lane last Friday night.
The Whitesboro Plowshop DIRTcar 358 Modifieds saw the Billy Dunn and Tim Fuller showdown once again this past Friday. Dunn was able to fend off Fuller in traffic to win for the 57th time at Can Am in his quest for a 7th track title.
Tyler Corcoran had a huge weekend. Corcoran took the lead from Fire Swamp to score the Bob Johnson Auto Group DIRTcar Sportsman feature. Corcoran also closed out his weekend with a DIRTcar Sportsman win at Land of Legends Saturday night, letting the competition know he means business in 2022. Corcoran is gunning for a third straight Can Am Sportsman title.
Eli Gilbert had a good car in the early laps of the FABCO DIRTcar Pro Stock feature last Friday. Bruno Richard from Gatineau Quebec spoiled the party however. The veteran driver took the lead and never looked back as he claimed his first Can Am Pro Stock win.
Joe Orvis and Chuck Monica put on an epic show for the fans in the Marsha Gibbons TLC Real Estate Thundercar division last week. Monica was all over Orvis the entire way, but Orvis held on to win by a car length at the finish. Owen Nier also dominated the Donath Motorworx Limited Sportsman, while Brighton Ontario’s Jonah Mutton claimed the first ever Panther Frameworx 602 Crate Sprint Car checkered flag.
Maggie’s On The River will be on hand this week for another great show this coming Friday. FABCO DIRTcar Pro Stocks are off this week as they prepare for the upcoming DIRTcar Pro Stock Series opener on Wednesday May 18th as part of the rescheduled Super DIRTcar Series Big Block Modified event.
Pit Gates open at 4:00pm with General Admission gates opening at 5:00pm. The drivers meeting will take place at 6:00pm sharp with Hot Laps to ensue at 6:20pm. Opening Ceremonies for the evening will kick off at 7:00pm by the lovely Miss Adirondack/Miss Thousand Islands and Heat Races will immediately follow.
