Story By: TIM BALTZ / CAN-AM SPEEDWAY – LAFARGEVILLE, NY – The 2022 season is in full swing at the Can Am Speedway in Lafargeville New York and this week will be a special one, as we honor our Active-Duty Military Personnel.
All Active-Duty Personnel who show ID will be admitted free at the general admission gate this coming Friday night as it is Armed Forces Day. With that, a great card of racing is ready to thrill the fans once again.
Through the first two events of the season, it’s clear the Whitesboro Plow Shop DIRTcar 358 Modifieds have their key players leading the charge with Tim Fuller and Billy Dunn claiming the first two wins of the season. Both drivers have been fast to start the year but other notables like Ryan Bartlett, Jordan McCreadie, Lance Willix and Ryan Arbuthnot showing speed. Arbuthnot was quick early in last week’s 25 lap feature, until power steering issues sidelined the former track champion. Arbuthnot did close out last weekend with his first win of the season at Brockville Saturday night.
The Bob Johnson Auto Group has seen different winners in the first two weeks of racing. Two-time defending track champion Tyler Corcoran won on May 6th, while Brian Hudson came to the front late in the 20-lap event, to score his first win of the year after a spirited battle with Tiger Chapman and Eric Nier. Other drivers such as Remington Hamm and Dave Rogers had solid top 5 runs while Kingston’s Jessica Power continued a solid start to 2022 with another top 10 finish. Power also claimed a DIRTcar Sportsman win at Brockville last Saturday night.
The Donath Motorworx Limited Sportsman saw a great battle with Belleville Ontario’s Cole Perry holding off a determined Paul DeRuyter for his first ever win. Josh Verne Jr. had never won on dirt before this past Friday night. Verne held off Jonah Mutton to claim the Panther Frameworx 602 Crate Sprint feature a week ago. The Marsha Gibbons TLC Real Estate Thundercar feature was no contest as Justin Pope came from last to first to dominate in his first start of the year.
The action takes place this coming Friday night sponsored by DP Bartlett Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning. Also, if you attended the Super DIRTcar Series event on Wednesday night, bring your ticket stub and receive $5 off general admission this weekend.
