Story By: TIM BALTZ / JESSICA POWER RACING – KINGSTON, ONT – After taking a couple of road trips to kick off the 2022 season at Orange County and Airborne Speedways to shake the car down, Jessica Power and he number 52 Sportsman team are ready as ever to get back to the normal schedule of racing action this year.
Last week at the Can Am Speedway in the Bob Johnson Auto Group DIRTcar Sportsman division, you would have never known that Jessica hadn’t turned a lap there in over two years, as she had a solid showing.
Power dominated her qualifying heat leading all 8 laps enroute to a dominant victory. The heat win put Jessica 3rd in the 31-car starting field. Jessica would do a fantastic job all night long running in the top 5 throughout the entire 20 lap feature event. The end result was a 6th place finish, as she looks to take down Tyler Corcoran for the championship, a driver who has been on top of the division the last two seasons.
This coming weekend will be a double header as the JPR team will be ready for battle at Can Am on Friday night in the Bob Johnson Auto Group DIRTcar Sportsman division. Saturday, the team will for a strong start to the season, as they aim for their first Brockville Speedway DIRTcar Sportsman Track Championship.
Although she did not claim a win last year at Brockville, her consistency was good enough to nail down her first Ogilvie’s Triple Crown Sportsman Series title. Power will look to become the first driver in series history to win that championship in consecutive years.
