Story By: KING OF DIRT – FAIR HAVEN, VT – Mid-season crunch is coming with drivers racing towards their best 12 finishes in hopes of being crown king. Fonda Speedway’s Chad Edwards led five other drivers including Matt Janczuk, Josh Coonradt, Gary Smith, Alan Fink, and Ricky Quick who earned victories during this past weekend’s racing action.
Fastline Performance King Of Dirt Racing Series presented by Swagger Factory Apparel overall point standings are wild. Each week with every finish added to a drivers total the leaderboard changes. Some drivers go up, some slip down, others await the opportunity for their home tracks to race more events with the common goal being everyone reach their best 12 finishes.
It’s time to shine the spotlight again as KOD has done all season on three drivers who stood out during this past weekend’s action starting with Fonda Speedway competitor Chad Edwards. The Mayfield, NY driver scored his fifth win of 2022 climbing back to the top spot on the leaderboard with his Kollar Motorsports – MJ Edwards Trucking number 10% Bicknell.
Five Mile Point Speedway competitor Gary Smith has quietly made his presence felt. Just 21 points out of the top spot, the Harpursville, NY driver earned his third win of the year leaping up to 12th in the overall standings. He’s also visited victory lane at Afton Motorsports Park. He’ll be a contender for the crown with his Matco Tools – Interstate Homes number 7UP Teo Pro Car.
Our third and final ‘podium’ pilot highlight calls Utica Rome Speedway home and drives a full-fender race rocket. Josh Coonradt, a highly talented Pro Stock competitor, went back-to-back earning his second win of the year. Add that to his consistency and the Fort Johnson, NY driver is 8th in standings with his Shults Auto Center – Ted’s Body Shop number 00X Manimal chassis.
OVERALL KOD CHAMPIONSHIP NOTES: Down near the bottom of the leaderboard fans find names of drivers who call Mohawk International Raceway, Can-Am Speedway, and Cornwall Motor Speedway home weekly. It’s important to stress these drivers are just as much in the point battle as anyone, but their tracks only have 4-6 races run. Soon as they start to put more finishes on the board as KOD progresses to a drivers best 12, they will indeed start moving up the leaderboard.
Winning at Brewerton Speedway is hard, as any given Friday night multiple drivers can race their way to victory lane. Alan Fink isn’t scared. He scored his second win of the season at the D-Shaped dirt demon. He’s also registered and recorded three wins at Thunder Mountain. The Central Square, NY driver is a crown contender driving his Top Gun Auto – Power Seal number 28 Bicknell.
Matt Janczuk needs no introduction. The sheriff is one of Utica Rome Speedway’s top racers and once he gets rolling, the Oneida, NY driver will be a crown contender for sure. He picked up his second win of the season rocketing into the top 10 in overall standings driving his Billy Whittaker Cars & Trux – Finish Line Designs number 33X Teo Pro Car.
For Glen Ridge Motorsports Park competitor Ricky Quick, it’s been a while since he visited victory lane. Sunday night he did just that, as the Scotia, NY driver picked up his first win of the season at the fastest quarter mile on dirt. He campaigns weekly driving his Palmer’s Service Center – All Seasons Equipment number 76 DKM Cyclone chassis.
