Story By: JARRAD WAKEFIELD / THUNDER MOUNTAIN SPEEDWAY – CENTER LISLE, NY – The Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints have visited the Thunder Mountain Speedway before.
However, this year’s stakes are even higher as the winged warriors climb up the Mountain on Thursday for night 2 of New York Speedweek, the most illustrious week in the New York sprint car scene.
Paying $2,500 to win and valuable Speedweek points, it’s anyone’s guess as to who will reach the summit first and visit Thunder Mountain Speedway victory lane.
That’s not all that Thursday night offers at the Thunder Mountain Speedway. The Dirt Track Digest TV Open Modifieds will do battle in Thursday Night Thunder. The winner of Thursday’s feature will not only earn $2,500, but a guaranteed starting spot in the Wade Decker Memorial on Sunday, July 3rd, which pays $5,000 to win. It pays to race at Thunder Mountain for all Modified drivers on Thursday as well; $300 is on the line for the first car on Hoosiers across the line, and $250 for the first DIRTcar 358 across the line. A stout field of the southern tier’s finest Modified competitors will climb the Mountain, looking for a nice pay-day and some security heading into Sunday’s competitive Wade Decker Memorial.
The B-Walt’s Car Care 600cc Modifieds will bring close competition at high speeds to round out racing for Thursday Night Thunder. Racers will compete for $500 to win on the Mountain. Only two drivers have repeated in victory lane through seven weeks of racing, meaning it’s anyone’s guess as to who will be next. The winner of this event locks into the season-ending 600cc Modified race alongside the UNRULY Race, which features another big pay-day for these highly competitive weekend warriors. They may not have the size of the Empire Super Sprints or the Dirt Track Digest TV Open Modifieds, but the B-Walt’s Car Care 600cc Modifieds are certain to bring the action. A big fireworks display will round out a high-octane night of racing on the Mountain.
Tickets will be $25 for adults at the gate. Seniors, students, and Veterans can get in for $20. As always at Thunder Mountain Speedway, children 9 and under are FREE! Bring the kids out to the racetrack to see what will be a spectacular night of racing. Pit admission will be $40 at the back gate.
