Story By: JIM CLARKE / K92 TURNER RACING – BROCKVILLE, ONT – When does a weekly hometown stock car driver become a racer?
Like others before her and still more who will follow, Keira Turner got her first taste of the motorsport’s world in the local karting ranks. The Prince Edward County teen – who is the 3rd generation of her family to pursue a passion of dirt track racing – made the jump to Brockville Speedway’s Novice Sportsman division for the 2021 season. While she didn’t know much about driving a stock car when she first started, the 15-year-old pilot says she has never stopped learning.
“From the go kart to the racecar, my family and friends have been the best support group I could ask for,” according to the young racer. “I’m so lucky to have ‘Grandmar’ and ‘Poppy’, my Mom, Uncle Adam, Aunt Crystal, Rob and Gail VanBlaricom and so many others standing by me and answering all the questions I’ve had. Race after race I’m getting more comfortable in the car.”
Following about a handful of 2022 starts in her No. K92 ride, Keira Turner has logged a single top 5 and 3 top 10 finishes. She currently sits in 7th spot in the overall standings. Close to 15 drivers have made at least 1 start in the Novice Sportsman class this year. After wrapping-up her 9th grade programs at Belleville’s Eastside Secondary School, Turner says she’s excited about heading back to the action at the speedway.
“Being at the track is always a lot of fun,” said Keira Turner. “I’ve met so many amazing people and made some wonderful, long-lasting friends there over the years. It’s a great place to be.”
Keira Turner’s racing program is proudly supported by Paul Turner Auto Repair, Mark Heating & Cooling, Angie’s Pooper Pumping Septic Service, Black Prince Winery, Kustom Rides, Darran Green Sand Blasting, Snider’s Painting, Gates Graphics and Clarke Motorsports Communications. The team is currently looking for additional sponsorship support as they head into the balance of Brockville Speedway’s 2022 schedule.
