Story By: MARTIN BÉLANGER / CORNWALL MOTOR SPEEDWAY – CORNWALL, ONT – It was a scorching hot night at Cornwall Motor Speedway with the Quebec-Ontario Challenge in town both 358-Modifieds and Sportsman along with the Lightning Sprints, Pro-Stock and Novice Sportsman on TRP Ready Mix night.
Local runners showed the way around in the 60-lap Grinder Restaurant Quebec-Ontario Modified Challenge as Carey Terrance was the early lead over Gage Morin, Terrance set the pace as Morin was able to use a restart to pass the 66X driver using the high lane, while Morin was in front, Chris Raabe made a charge to the front from his 8th starting position and battle hard for the second spot with Corey Wheeler and Terrance while Mat Williamson cracked the top 5 at the halfway mark from his 12th starting spot. Morin made no errors and captured a first win in 2022 over Raabe, Wheeler, Williamson and Terrance.
A similar scenario was in play in the Quebec-Ontario Sportsman Challenge presented by Lussier Chevrolet/DRIVR Academy as series points leader Gabriel Cyr took the lead from the front row, Cyr was looking strong in front as Thomas Cook and Tyler Givogue made some solid attempts to get by Cyr as all three drivers exchanged the lead, Cyr was able to bring back his #94 machine to the top and captured a first win in Cornwall this season remained undefeated in the Quebec-Ontario Challenge. Givogue, Ryan Stabler, Shane Pecore and Samuel Charland, completed the top 5.
The Lightning Sprint were finally able to race after 2 events falling to inclement weather. A very entertaining 25-lap event as Alex Therrien had to fend off several charging attempts from Yannick Poirier and Xavier Lauzon in the final portion of the race. Therrien used his experience to get the win over Lauzon and Pascal Levesque coming in third. Jean-Christophe Bolduc had spectacular accident during the feature, Bolduc came out with a small scare out of it.
Bruno Richard took the lead in the 25-lap Alexandria Home Hardware Pro-Stock feature as Denis Gauvreau looked strong in his ride as well, Gauvreau took the lead over Richard on a restart as Richard came back during the event took back the lead while Marc Lalonde made his way to front, Lalonde took the high lane and went pass by Richard and wen ont to win his second feature of the season over Richard and Gauvreau.
Mathis Caron took the feature win in the Fun Zone Inflatables Novice Sportsman over Daphne Hebert and Trevor Gaucher.
A popular event this coming Sunday with the return of the Autograph Night after 2 full years of absence along with a regular event in all 5 divisions.
