Story By: TOBY LAGRANGE / GLEN RIDGE MOTORSPORTS PARK – FULTONVILLE, NY – It was nearly three years ago when the Dirt Modifieds last took the green flag at the Glen Ridge Motorsports Park.
That day would see Josh Hohenforst pick up the win and ever since, race fans have been anxiously waiting for the return of the much-loved Dirt Modifieds.
The wait is nearly over.
On Sunday July 17th the DIRTcar 358 Modifieds will make their return to The Ridge in an event that was originally scheduled for June 12th however it was postponed due to rain.
The 35-lap event will pay $2,000 to win if the car count reaches at least 20. The event will also offer those precious points towards the lucrative Hoosier Racing Tire DIRTcar 358 Modified Weekly Championship.
Interest in the return of the Modifieds is high with drivers such as two-time Glen Ridge feature winner and Can-Am Speedway regular Lance Willix as well as second-generation racer and Lebanon Valley Speedway regular Montgomery Tremont already confirming that they will be on hand.
Heading into this weekends events Willix is the current points leader in the race for the Hoosier Tire DIRTcar 358 Modified Weekly Championship standings. The championship takes a drivers best 16 features to determine the standings. Chris Raabe, Jordan McCreadie, Mat Williamson and Jeff Sykes round out the current top five.
Also in action will be each of the weekly divisions with the Red Chair DIRTcar Sportsman and Cherko-Fusco Realty Limited Sportsman divisions going topless for the night.
The Glen Ridge Motorsports Park returns to action this Sunday night, July 10th with another DIRTcar Sunday Night program featuring all weekly divisions. In addition to the weekly program, the DIRTcar Pro Stock Series will make their only appearance of the season at The Ridge as will the Slingshot by Tobias Super Nationals Series. Pit Gates open at 3PM, Grandstands at 4PM, Hot Laps at 5:30 PM with racing set to start at 6PM.
